Who's this Jesus guy and what's he all about, you ask?
Here's my answer:
In today's age, it's all about status in this world. We are constantly climbing the proverbial social ladder. The book of Philippians tells us that Jesus had equal status with God but he wasn't so wrapped up in his status that he thought of himself better than anyone. Instead, he came here to Earth, the same way we all did, born of a woman, and took on the status of a servant. He didn't claim any of the rights he was owed through his heavenly royalty. He lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless obedient death -- and the worst kind of death at that -- a crucifixion (Philippians 2:5-8).
We are sinful people and God does not like sin. He hates it in fact, so much that he was going to pour all of his wrath out on us. But at the same time, he loves us so very much. So much that he sent his son to Earth, to be a substitute for us. God poured out his wrath on Jesus like waters rushing out of a broken dam. Jesus took it all, died and was buried, and three days later he walked out of that tomb and among us again. He ascended into Heaven where he sits right beside God until the day when he comes back to claim his people and take them to Heaven to live with him for all of eternity.
Neat, huh?

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.
